Whether you call my writings devotional commentaries or exegesis—whichever word you prefer is not important—what is important, is that they help you understand Scripture better. My intent was to let Scripture interpret Scripture, and for my personal interpretations to not taint what you’ve read, and I feel confident that I have accomplished these goals. God’s Word is alive and has a particular meaning for every person who reads it when they read it. The difficult part for many is, to simply begin reading. Whether one believes they don’t have time or real intimidation, these are hurdles that must be overcome in order to build a relationship with our Father in Heaven through His Word. The book I have written is intended to remove such hurdles, while also creating a desire for the reader to engage with God’s Word by hopefully simplifying the Scriptures I have written about.
My own relationship with God has changed my life and my understanding about life—and it all began by getting to know Him through His Word. Being made in His image, I also got to know myself more than I could have imagined. People in my life were revealed for who they are as well. It has been intriguing to learn how spiritually blind I was, and concerning to learn how spiritually blind some in my life still are. The warnings in Scripture about this fallen world are so important, I cannot begin to express how vital it is to take heed of them.
Naturally, the Holy Spirit is still doing His work of regeneration within me, but I can honestly say, nothing in life compares to being born again. God’s promise of giving a new heart and a renewed spirit to all those who accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior is real! Believe Him! As much as we may try, we cannot change ourselves. Unless we surrender to God when He calls, we will continue to struggle against the worldly ways the Holy Spirit convicts us of. It is God’s way of calling us to Him.
Do not let time stand in the way of building an intimate relationship with God. Do not let thoughts of being unable to understand Scripture keep you from knowing God through His Word. Do not allow people in your life to minimize the importance and reality of the sacrifice Jesus Christ made for you. These are tactics the evil one and those who have followed him use to separate you from God. The spiritual war for your soul is real! Choose the love of God who created you. Choose the mind of Christ who sacrificed Himself for you. Choose the Holy Spirit who wants to guide and protect you.
May you choose to answer God when He calls you.
May you always think with the mind of Christ Jesus.
And may you surrender to the voice and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
